Bhubezi Community Healthcare Centre World Aids Day Initiative

Virgin Unite made a difference in the lives of others by contributing to the Bhubezi Community Healthcare Centre as part of World Aids Day.

Staff across the Virgin Group were invited to participate and their generosity was astounding. Virgin Mobile managed to raise R899.95 and fill 4 boxes with food. It goes to show that by working together so much can be achieved and the lives of those less fortunate can be made a little easier and more comfortable.

Note: The Bhubezi Community Healthcare Centre feeds 120 people a day.

What Virgin Unite is about?

Virgin Unite is the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group. We unite people to tackle tough social and environmental problems in an entrepreneurial way. Our aim is to help revolutionize the way businesses, governments and the social sector work together – driving business as a force for good.

This is based on the belief that this is the only way we can tackle the scale and urgency of the challenges facing the world today. Virgin Unite’s overheads are covered by Sir Richard Branson and the Virgin Group, meaning that 100% of additional donations received go direct to the frontline where they are needed most.

2010 Virgin Unite Staff Connection Trip

Each year, Virgin Unite, the non-profit foundation of the Virgin Group, brings together 10 Virgin staff from around the world for a week of hands on volunteering in South Africa in the community surrounding Ulusaba, Richard’s private game reserve.

They assist with basic needs such as food, water, and health services, while also helping people to help themselves through education, social and economic empowerment.

The Virgin Businesses and Virgin Unite do their bit to help “green the planet”

Teams from Virgin Atlantic, Virgin Life Care, Virgin Mobile and Virgin Money took time out to plant veggie gardens and trees in Meadowlands, Hanover Park and CIDA City Campus.

On the 13th of October 2009 the Virgin Veggie planting team assembled at the Virgin Atlantic and Virgin Life care reception areas armed with bottles of water, muffins & biltong ready for action.16 staff members planted two vegetable gardens that consist of 3000 plants each, at the Hanover Park Day Care (Cape Town) and Kelokitso Life College (Meadowlands Soweto). These sustainable gardens will help feed these communities healthy organic produce for years to come!

On the 14th of October 2009 Virgin Mobile, Virgin Money and Virgin Unite took to the task of planting a whopping 38 trees in one day at the Lyndhurst CIDA City Campus grounds. Not only did the planting squad look great while planting but they gave the students some tough competition! Fast forward to the future and think of the students relaxing under the shade of these trees while reading a book!!
