We have all the fancy stuff you could wish for - but don't make any of it mandatory. With Virgin Mobile you only pay for what you need.

Here's what's free:
Statements: You decide whether you'd like to receive your monthly statement via email or post. It will also be available on the web.

Emergency Assistance: Simply dial 112 from your mobile.

Caller Line Identification Presentation (CLIP): Allows a caller's number to appear on your mobile screen and your number to appear on theirs. Ask us to activate Calling Line Identity Restriction (CLIR) is you'd prefer to hide your identity (but fair is fair…your callers will be anonymous too).
Be warned that your identity will always be revealed when you send off those brutal SMSs.

Enhanced Voicemail: Your mailbox has been automatically upgraded to store up to forty 2-minute messages. Unheard messages will be kept for 30 days and messages you've heard without deleting will be stored for 14 days. Download our Virgin Mobile voicemail brochure.

Call Waiting: Alerts you of an incoming call if you're already chatting to someone. You can juggle between two calls by using the hold button (this service is not recommended for those with multiple girlfriends).

Call Divert: If you're running low on battery, or won't be able to use your mobile for whatever reason, you may divert or forward categories of calls to another mobile, a landline or even your voicemail. Like call waiting, call divert is facilitated by Virgin Mobile but controlled from your mobile phone.

You may subscribe to receive itemised bills every month for a nominal fee of R10 p/m. Otherwise, simply make a once-off request when you suspect your children are using your mobile to buy the latest pick-up lines.

Like your statement, you may request your itemised bill be sent via email or post and it will also be available on My V Zone on this site

Mobile insurance is available to all Credit Account holders and Prepay Account holders with a direct debit facility. Provided you pay your premiums, we'll sort out the paperwork with our friends from Hollard Insurance.

Your premiums include the cost of replacing your SIM, as well as the settlement of your Mobile Phone Plan in the case of death, disability or involuntary retrenchment.

Let us know if something happens to your mobile within 30 days (but you are obliged to inform the police within 48 hours if your mobile is stolen). You will be required to pay an excess for each claim and other conditions apply.

Generally, Virgin Mobile will give you a full refund if your mobile has not been used or opened and you return it to us within 7 days from purchase. We will also refund you if it's faulty out-the-box (what a letdown…we'll have words with the manufacturer on your behalf). However, some of our retail outlet partners may impose their own returns policy.

All Virgin mobiles are covered by a 2 year warranty from the date of invoice. We'll repair it free of charge within this period, as long as there is no liquid or physical damage (that means you can't leave it on the roof of your car by mistake, and flatten it as you pull out the driveway). We'll also organise insurance funded repairs.

If your mobile is out of warranty and the damage is not covered by insurance, we'll still endeavour to fix - but you will be charged.

As a Virgin Mobile customer you can connect up to 6 people, including yourself, at the same time.

To initiate a conference call, call the first person and place them on hold while you call the second person and invite them to join you. Put them on hold while you call the third person and so on. Once all the calls are activated select the 'conference' option on your mobile.

You will be charged for the calls you make, but if someone else invites a new member to the conference - they will be charged

SMS

This is the SHORT MESSAGE SERVICE that allows you to send and receive text. Your short text messages may contain up to 160 characters. If your mobile is switched off or out of range, your messages will be stored in the network and delivered as soon as possible…beep, beep.

MMS

MMS allows you to send pictures and - if the one you've chosen doesn't quite say a thousand words - you can type these out instead. Besides graphics and long text, MMS also allows you to communicate with sound files and video clips.

GPRS

GPRS stands for GENERAL PACKET RADIO SERVICE. Basically it refers to a technology that allows data to be transmitted and received in packets. With GPRS you can be connected to the Internet at all times - but you only pay for the data sent.

As long as your mobile is GPRS-compatible your Virgin Mobile SIM is your gateway to GPRS connectivity.

EDGE

ENHANCED DATA RATES FOR GLOBAL EVOLUTION (sounds a bit like an activist group) is an enhancement of GPRS that allows you to download data packets at even higher speeds.

If your mobile is EDGE-compatible then EDGE settings will be automatically downloaded from your Virgin Mobile SIM. If your mobile does not have EDGE capability then GPRS settings will be downloaded instead. In places where an EDGE network is not available, your mobile or data card will automatically default back to GPRS access

Virgin Mobile has roaming partners in more than 120 countries around the world - from Albania to Zimbabwe. So you never have to be out of touch with friends, debt collectors or clingy mothers who still want you to 'call when you get there' even though you're pushing 40.

Credit Account holders are eligible to apply for international roaming rights (simply call our Sort Me Out Centre and please bear in mind you may be required to make an upfront payment). If you're successful, simply switch on your mobile when you land and it should connect to one of the local network operators that are buddies with Virgin Mobile. Then, before you can say "Delhi Belly," you'll be able to make and receive calls and send and receive SMSs.
