The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), a body that regulates the South African Telecommunications industry, has mandated that all licencees implement number harmonisation with the aim to reduce complexity caused by the current wide range of different codes.

The new short codes will also create an environment where the regulator can provide proper guidance on future assignment of short codes.
