What is Rica?
RICA means that from the 1 July 2010 onwards, all new pre - and postpaid customers should have registered their SIM's with Virgin Mobile.
How do I get Rica'd?
You will need your South African ID or passport and proof of residence (bank statement, retail account, municipal bill, etc) verified by a RICA officer.
What happens after 1 July 2011?
If you didn’t RICA'd your SIM in time, your cell phone service will be suspended.
What does 'suspended' mean?
- That you will not be able to make any outgoing calls and SMSs nor be able to download any data.
- You will also not be able to receive any calls or SMSs.
- Our postpaid customers will however still be billed for their monthly commitment.
What to do after you have missed the RICA deadline and your account has been suspended?
Take a deep breath and calm down. Once you have taken a moment to 'pull yourself towards yourself', take your South African ID book or passport and proof of residence to:
- One of our franchise stores, any Pick and Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, Edgars, CNA, Jet or Spar store OR go to our customer walk-in centre at Cedar Square. Look out for the RICA sign. Send an SMS and find out where to RICA. SMS the store (Virgin Mobile, Shoprite, Checkers or Pick n Pay) and your province to 32977. (Example, Virgin Mobile Eastern Cape.) R1 per SMS.
- Email a copy of your South African ID book or passport and proof of residence to ricame@virginmobile.co.za. Don’t forget to give us your cell number.
- Fax a copy of their South African ID book or passport and proof of residence to 086 672 7844. Please don’t forget to add your cell phone number on the fax.
