Get your email sorted out

Don’t forget this can only be done once your BlackBerry® Service has been activated on your SIM card.

  • Open the Setup or Email Settings application.
  • Click Email Accounts, if required.
  • Click Add My Existing Email Account or Add, if required. Click an email account type, or click other if required.
  • Type an email address and password, and click Next / Continue.
  • Click on Continue & Return to Setup. Then click on Mailbox.
  • Click on the activation Server Email you receive to confirm activation. Done!

Get your email sorted out

Adding an email address you already have

When adding an existing email address to a profile, enter it in the top section of the page displayed. Enter the password for your email address, confirm it and click “Next”.

Setting up a new BlackBerry® Email account

  • To create a BlackBerry® email address, scroll down and select name@virginmobile.co.za below the “Create new account” option.
  • Enter a unique username and password for the BlackBerry® Email address.
  • Confirm the password, fill in your secret question, click “Next” and you’re ready to go!

We like to think of it as takeout pizza. It’s yummy, it’s impossible to say no to and most of all – you decide exactly how and when you want it. Also, we just really love pizza.

You have four different options for BlackBerry Internet Services as a Virgin Mobile prepaid customer, tailored to suit your needs and most importantly your pocket. 

Each service is valid for 7 day, 14 day and 30 day options.

Please take note that a Fair usage policy applies to all BlackBerry® Internet Services:

How do I load my BlackBerry® Internet Service?

  • If you’re a new customer, you’ll need to purchase a Virgin Mobile Prepaid SIM. Easy enough to find at a Virgin Mobile store or any one of our partners.
  • All new or existing Prepaid customers will need a BlackBerry® ready SIM to subscribe to this service. You can find out if your SIM is BlackBerry® ready at your nearest Virgin Mobile store.
  • Insert it into a BlackBerry® smartphone.
  • Recharge with Virgin Mobile airtime.
  • Enter the appropriate USSD string, for example: *110# for all BlackBerry® Internet Service  options, into your mobile phone and wait for the magic to happen!
  • You will receive an SMS to confirm your service. If we do not confirm within 5 minutes of your request, you will have to input the USSD string again and wait for a new confirmation SMS.
  • When your BlackBerry® Internet Service expires, you can then send one of the 4 USSD options from your cell phone to reactivate your service. It’s all under your control, at all times.
  • Or alternatively, select a recurring BlackBerry® option and ensure you have sufficient airtime for the automated subscription to take place, either every 7, 14 or 30 days.

For our contract customers:

  • If you are experiencing issues with your BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) Call 123 FREE from your Virgin Mobile BlackBerry Smartphone or dial 0741 000 123 from a landline. Our Call Centre Champions will do anything they can to help you out and get you back on track.
  • Please note that your SIM card could take 2 - 24 hours to be activated.
  • When your service is active, you will receive a message telling you that you’re ready to go.

BlackBerry® Services Descriptions

BlackBerry® Messenger

BlackBerry Messenger is Research In Motion’s best kept secret and is the firm favourite amongst the BlackBerry® community. It is a unique instant messaging service designed just for BlackBerry® smartphone users. Wherever you are in the world, BBM™ enables you to instantly chat, send and receive pictures and much more in real-time, making it the ultimate tool for people who want to keep in contact on the go. BBM™ is included in all the BlackBerry® Plans.

 

BlackBerry® Email 

No need for a web-based email as you can create your own BlackBerry® email account as soon as your BlackBerry® Plan is activated. This email account is wireless so is only available on the smartphone itself and cannot be sent to any PC based mailbox. BlackBerry® Email is included in all the BlackBerry® Plans, except for Vodacom and MTN’s BlackBerry® Messenger Plans.

Browser

All BlackBerry® smartphones have a built-in HTML Internet browser with full colour image graphics. Full Internet access using this browser is included in all the BlackBerry® Plans, except for the BlackBerry® Messaging Plan.

 

BlackBerry® App World

Find and download loads of FREE and paid for apps designed to work seamlessly with your BlackBerry® smartphone – all from one convenient place, the BlackBerry® App World™ storefront. Personalise your BlackBerry® smartphone with games, social networking, personal productivity apps and so much more. Put more of your life on your BlackBerry smartphone. Access to BlackBerry® App World™ is included in all the BlackBerry® Plans, except for the BlackBerry® Messaging Plan.

Social Networking

Preloaded popular social networking applications including Facebook® for BlackBerry®smartphones, Twitter™ for BlackBerry® smartphones and LinkedIn® for BlackBerry® smartphones. These applications are all super apps, which means they integrate fully with the push technology, calendar and messaging functions on the BlackBerry® ®smartphone. Unlimited social networking is included in all the BlackBerry® Plans, except for the BlackBerry® Messaging Plan.

Instant Messaging

Other non-BlackBerry Instant Messaging (IM) apps can be downloaded for use on your BlackBerry® smartphone – such as: Google Chat, Yahoo! Messenger, Windows® Live Messenger, AOL Instant Messenger (AIM), WhatsApp Messenger and more. Included only on the BlackBerry® Absolute MTN and the BlackBerry®Internet Service Plans.

 

Web-based Email Accounts

Any email account that is available via a web-based interface. Eg. Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Mweb, etc… Using your existing Web-based email client username and password, add this account to your BlackBerry® smartphone. Email sent to this account will also automatically be pushed to your device. Available only with the BlackBerry® Messaging Plan (one) (Vodacom and MTN only), the Social & Email Plan (one), the BlackBerry®Absolute MTN Plan (ten) and the BlackBerry® Internet Service Plan (ten). 

BlackBerry® Protect

Safeguard your information via remote back-up and restore to the cloud using this FREE app available for download from BlackBerry® App World™. Simple web interface allows you to remotely wipe or lock the device, retrieve important information, view a “Lost and Found” screen and even locate your lost device on a map. Available only on the BlackBerry® Absolute MTN and the BlackBerry® Internet Service Plans.

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express

BlackBerry® Enterprise Server Express wirelessly synchronises Microsoft® Exchange or IBM® Lotus® Domino® with BlackBerry® smartphones. It provides advanced BlackBerry® smartphone business features with no software license fees or additional per user license fees. Available only on the BlackBerry® Absolute MTN and the BlackBerry® Internet Service Plans.
