Virgin Mobile and A Plea for PPE

We’ve all been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in some way, shape, or form. Every crisis has its heroes, and every disaster has its displays of selflessness and sacrifice. Firefighters race into burning buildings. Police officers place themselves in the line of fire. Soldiers march into war.

And now, amid the current COVID-19 pandemic, our healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, EMTs and support staff who risk becoming infected themselves, who risk infecting their own families, are making extraordinary sacrifices to care for the rest of us.

Virgin Mobile South Africa want to show our support for these frontline heroes, and are proud to announce a partnership with A Plea for PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by raising funds to acquire the protective gear that our healthcare providers so desperately need to protect themselves, their families, and the rest of the rainbow nation.

As of 20 April 2020, all Virgin Mobile customers will be able to donate to this cause using the below two options:

·         Dial *100*100# and you could donate either R2, R5, R10, R20 or R50 from your airtime balance;

·         Purchase any once-off Data Bundle or Bag It Deal and donate an additional R1 from your airtime at the end of your purchase.

We’re keeping things simple for customers. There’s no lengthy phone calls, no SMS’s to numbers you can’t remember, and no need to make EFTs or sign documents.

We know that now more than ever, times are tough economically for everyday South Africans. We want to make an impact on our local communities and support some proudly South African initiatives. That’s why we're guaranteeing that every single cent of your donation will go to A Plea for PPE – however small or large.

Our President has called on us to flatten the curve. As we navigate these unchartered waters, we are reminded of his words to the nation:

“I call on all of us, one and all, to play our part.

To be courageous, to be patient, and above all, to show compassion.

Let us never despair, for we are a nation of one, and we will surely prevail.

May God protect our people.

Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika. Morena boloka Sechaba sa heso

God Seën Suid-Afrika.”
